Many a life insurance application has been delayed for weeks if not months due to the insurers requesting doctors reports. A request gets sent to the doctor, that then sits in their tray of things to do gathering dust, a couple of chasers later and we may just be getting somewhere.
Well not anymore, an initiative by Aviva places the emphasis on the underwriters making faster better decisions which up until now have likely just been stalled by the doctors report.
By utilising the skills of qualified nurses and underwriters and getting them to speak to the client directly gathering extra medical information, Aviva have been able to cut the number of GP reports requested for life insurance policies by 60%.
There are many benefits to come from this change with clients getting covered by the policy quicker due to the reduces application time. Aviva make considerable savings by reducing their bill for doctors reports, whilst it reduces the burden for busy GPs to have to answer insurance related queries.
There are benefits all round and we believe we will see many other insurers following suit. Whilst there will always be a need to request GP reports for some applicants to insure the policy is suitable, the process followed by Aviva will keep these to a minimum.
