Expats Consider Healthcare a Priority

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

A recent study by Natwest, their third annual Quality of Life Report has shown nine out of 10 Britons living abroad as expatriates enjoy a better quality of life, interestingly coming in at number four for key determinants of ones quality of life was healthcare, topped by the natural environment and coming in above education and financial security.

In the 2008 survey we saw 26% of expatriates planning to return to the UK at some point, now in the latest poll only 19% would consider a return. Of the expatriates polled 90% stated they were financially secure.

Other research has shown that on average a professional expat’s salary is up to £20,000 higher than their UK counterparts with 92% of these individuals reporting  a salary increase over the past three years. Hong Kong saw the highest reported salary increase followed by the United Arab Emirates and Spain. Of those polled 59% expect to be better off financially in five years time.

The report and poll was conducted by the Centre for Future Studies between the months of October and November 2009, polling 1,306 expats living in 12 countries covering Australia, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa, Singapore, Spain, UAE and USA.

If you are considering moving abroad and settling further afield and are considering your health and protection requirements then let us know. Whether it is expat health insurance or whether your current protection will suffice we are here to provide the information and advice to make your life easier.
