need some guidance? |
Dental insurance is becoming a necessity in everyday life due to the increased costs of visiting the dentist, dental cover is designed so you can choose your dentist and be seen at a time to suit you.
Most plans allow you to claim for either private or NHS treatment. Private dental insurance contributes towards routine treatment, dental emergencies and serious dental problems.
|
• Who do you want to cover?
Dental healthcare plans can be used to cover yourself only, yourself and your spouse or a plan for your whole family including cover for your children.
• What level of cover?
Dental insurance varies widely from insurer to insurer, similar to an affordable health insurance plan, dental policies range from a cheap basic plan to a comprehensive policy with all the extras but like anything you tend to get what you pay for.
Some dental healthcare policies are described as NHS cover. These aim only to cover the costs of NHS treatment. Other UK dental insurance policies seek to cover the costs of private treatment. Regardless the aim of a dental insurance plan is to offer cover for preventative, minor and major restorative dental treatments.
Typically, dental plans will include a very long list of limits. Each type of treatment usually has a per claim limit paid out for each treatment claim and a separate per annum limit for the amount paid for the treatment during a policy year.
• What is not usually covered?
Typically dental plans will not cover cosmetic treatment,
orthodontic treatment, dental implants and sports injuries unless a mouthguard is worn.
Dental insurance is a necessity for many, however please be aware some dental policies make you wait from three to six months before you can make a claim, so make sure you check the policy first.
• Health cash plans alternative?
Rather than buy a dental policy, you could cover some of the costs of private dental treatment with a health cash plan.
Health cash plans are a good low cost way to cover dental treatment costs. If you pay for NHS or private treatments such as dental ,optical or alternative treatments such as osteopathy, you can reclaim the cash up to set limits.
Health cash plans do have a drawback, they only pay part of the cost. Unlike some of the better dental plans some make you pay 50% or 25% of all treatment costs. All will have an annual and/or per treatment limit which is often way below current dental charges.
